Developing
We discover and develop powerful stories rooted in African communities, cultures and lived experiences.
Producing
We bring stories to life through professional, collaborative and high-quality film and television production.
Delivering
We take African stories beyond their places of origin, connecting them with audiences across South Africa, the continent and the world.
Our Approach
Founded from a deep connection to the Eastern Cape, Village Cinema Line believes that some of the most compelling stories are found in communities, cultures and experiences that are often overlooked.
Our purpose is to bring these stories to the screen with authenticity, creativity and professional production standards.
Our Work
We approach every project with a commitment to developing the story, surrounding it with the right creative and technical talent, and building the production systems necessary to deliver quality content.
Uthando Lwenene Trailer
Produced in 2019 for Mzansi Magic, this short-form drama is a powerful African love story about a man determined to protect the family he loves.
It reflects Village Cinema Line’s commitment to telling authentic, emotionally engaging stories that connect with audiences.
Our Story
We Create Opportunities for:
Village Cinema Line was built on a belief that great stories do not only come from major cities or established production centres.
They can come from villages, townships, rural communities and ordinary people whose experiences contain extraordinary stories.
Our roots in the Eastern Cape have shaped the kind of company we want to become: one that does not simply enter communities to shoot and leave, but one that contributes to the development of local talent and creates meaningful opportunities within those communities.
- entering its next stage of growth
- developing a strong slate of film
- establishing the systems, partnerships and creative infrastructure
Our journey has included developing and producing projects for the South African market, participating in industry training and development programmes, building relationships with experienced industry professionals, and continuously investing in our knowledge and capabilities
For Village Cinema Line, production is about more than what appears on screen.
Every production creates an opportunity to develop people both behind the scenes and in front of the camera
We are committed to creating opportunities for actors, writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, production assistants, designers, technicians and other creative professionals, particularly emerging talent.
Through our productions, we aim to contribute to skills development, employment and the growth of South Africa's creative economy.
The Eastern Cape is an important part of our identity.
Its landscapes, languages, traditions, communities and people provide an endless source of stories.
We believe the province has enormous creative potential, and Village Cinema Line wants to be part of building a stronger film ecosystem within the region.
Our ambition is to create productions that bring investment, employment and creative opportunities into the Eastern Cape while showcasing the province to audiences beyond its borders.
Village Cinema Line is building toward a future where the company develops and produces a consistent slate of feature films, television series, documentaries and other screen content.
Our long-term ambition is to establish Village Cinema Line as a company capable of taking an idea from development to production, post-production and distribution, while building strong relationships with broadcasters, streamers, distributors, investors, government agencies and industry partners.
We want our productions to create careers. We want our stories to travel.
And we want Village Cinema Line to become a company that future filmmakers can look to and say:
I started here. My story was given a chance here. And this company helped me believe that I could build a career in film.
